The wake for my friend Kristin was tonight.
Needless to say, it was terrible, but what can be expected? It was an open casket, which was totally unexpected due to the.... placement... of the fatal wound. And, she was dressed in her show clothes, complete with formal black jacket and stock tie (which was tied wrong).
I still miss her like crazy, we were Kristin 1(her) and Kristen 2(me) for almost nine years now. She was my motivational "get you ass on that damned horse and over the goddamn jump" person at almost every show that we went to.
There are gonna be some really huge shoes to fill at the barn.

Three and a half years ago, I lost my best friend. She hung herself. I had a very difficult time, especially because I saw her that same day and knew something was wrong with her, but she wouldn't share it with me.
I was surprised too that they had an open casket. They tried to cover the bruises around her neck. They dressed her in one of her favorite sweaters and pair of shoes, but the whole appearance was still wrong.
I understand how it can feel so sudden and horrible and unbelievable. But you will get through it. You'll never forget, but eventually your thoughts will not dwell so much on how her life ended, but who she was and how she lived before then.
If you feel you want a stranger to talk to (because sometimes that can be a little easier), you can send me a message. We find friends when we really need them. I know I found some of my closest friends today after the tragedy we shared.
Be strong. I'll be thinking of you, and praying for Kristin's family and friends.
